Today is May Day and the festival of Bealtaine from ancient Irish mythology. Since 1995 Bealtaine has been a national festival celebrating the creativity and involvement of older people in the arts. Ireland was a founding member of the European Arts and Older People Network in 1993.  Explore the Age & Opportunity website and learn more about this development in Irish life.

***Books, Book, Books Series: Great Bookstores to Visit***

Brought to You by My Curated Information Blog, Create & Be Well

I will confess to being a lifelong bookworm; nothing makes me happier than to browse for hours in a bookstore or the stacks of a library. This list of bookstores to visit in every state and D.C. is an excellent one from “Book Riot.” I haven’t been in all of them, but the ones I have visited more than measure up to their reputations. Keep it handy for next trip out of your own community.

Dramatic presentations, whether in live theater, small puppet shows, or online creations are wonderful ways to express ideas. Salley Mavor and her Wee Folk talk about her transition from the fairy world of her past work to the political commentary that has emerged from the election of 2016. Noted for her fairies and their tales, this is a new–and I think vibrant and important–direction for her work. Salley Mavor is a national treasure who has been delighting people for decades. There is no less delight in the humor and satire of her new creations. Play therapy is a wonderful way to keep hope alive in dark times. The featured images are from the work of children in India who are participating in art therapy groups.
