Even the smallest town is a complex organism; to transform it you must first understand it. I am a great admirer of Strong Towns and the work the organization is doing across the country. In this essay its founder Chuck Marohn offers a cogent meditation on Chapter 22 of Jane Jacob’s popular book  The Death and Life of Great American Cities. Marohn focuses on the critical notion of organized complexity in a community and what that means for trying to make it a place where all people can thrive.
