            Trees embody complex symbolism in all areas of the world and all traditions. We speak of the “Tree of Life,” and the “Tree of Knowledge.”  Sages and tired travelers rest under special trees. I love this particular essay because it offers a richer perception of the tree as the origin of knowledge than in western philosophy.  Jonardon Ganeri presents the multi-trunked banyan tree as the proper symbol of the Tree of Knowledge in this insightful essay.
