Corita Kent was one of the extraordinary women of the 196os and 1970s; she influenced contemporary arts movements and the emerging revolution among Catholic religious communities of women. For those of us living in the Boston area, the sight of the gas tank with her designs was familiar and much-loved. Her advice on freeing the individual creative spirit in all of us is as relevant today as it was then. It is a shame her small book, Learning By Heart,  is out of print, but still available in used book outlets. Thanks to Artsy Editorial for the essay!
