The integration of various forms of art therapy into healthcare has occurred over centuries, not just recent decades as we may think. Today’s post is a fascinating look at the use of embroidery therapy with veterans of World War I. While the hospitals using it were in the United Kingdom, the wounded soldiers were from Australia, Canada, and New Zealand as well as the UK. The examples of this art in the article are gorgeous works and a reminder that we create ideas anew in each era. The featured images are masks from art therapy workshops for current US veterans offered by the Veterans Art Foundation.
