On this Memorial Day I want to share the experience of a splendid writer, Maxine Hong Kingston, and her work with veterans. One section of my book “Shaping Lives, Transforming Communities: Creative Expression in the Dance of Life” focuses on how veterans are using the arts to assist the transition to civilian life, as well as how they are developing as writers, musicians, and visual artists.

Several organizations, among them the Veterans Art Foundation and Military Experience and the Arts work with veteran artists in many ways. In what this section from Bill Moyers program, he shares Maxine Hong Kingston’s work with veterans over many decades.
