Creative expression includes the broad range of ideas and projects that make up community innovation and development. Andorra, a tiny country between Spain and France, partners with MIT’s Media Lab to develop new ways of creative community development. You may find some good ideas for your own community in this report. Enjoy the images from the ever-wonderful Buddha Doodles.

The Remake Learning Collaborative in Pittsburgh is one of the lighthouses of hope I will be featuring in an upcoming Resource Guide on creative expression in our lives and communities. Today’s post is an update on their work and a good way for you to find out more about it. You may get some good ideas for your own community.

The images are from one of the most effective innovations in education in our time. For over 40 years Barefoot College has been making a difference in the lives of Indians, especially poor rural men and women.

This is one of my favorite shares from Brain Pickings. The idea of creative expression is at the heart of my book in progress, Shaping Lives, Transforming Communities: Creative Expression in the Dance of Life. To truly understand creativity, we must understand its nature as a combinatorial activity. Toby Lester’s book DA VINCI’S GHOST is a great place to begin your search for the heart of creativity. Even I broke down and ordered a print copy!

Acoaxet Reflections: New Perspective
Regina MJ Kyle, 2015

Creative expression takes many forms. In the spirit of the new encyclical issued by Pope Francis I want to share some wonderful examples of what is happening in the Tiny House movement. The Tiny House movement fosters sustainability and affordability in housing, focusing on creative living on a small scale that respects the earth and its needs.

The example in today’s post is from Portland, Oregon, a city that supports and encourages the philosophy and practicality of the Tiny House approach. You can also link to another example in Seattle from today’s post. Oregon and Washington are leaders in encouraging sustainability and affordability in housing, a lesson all communities need to learn and emulate.

Please use the contact form below to let me know about similar activities in your community.
