I am doing a lot of research these days on rural development; there are fascinating innovations growing up on small farming.      One of the better developments in schools in recent years has been the school garden. Gardens offer an opportunity for kids to learn in the outdoors, to understand the environment, and to use a variety of academic skills in practical ways. This is an excellent introduction to current practice from Modern Farmer.

“About a decade ago when school gardens starting popping up around the country, there was always the open question: how are these gardens teaching students?”
