This is a major new direction that builds on the rich body of research about the importance of music and the other arts in human development. The Creative Ireland plan, announced today, is comprehensive and inclusive of all the arts and all communities. Check it out here.

Now Daniel Barenboim is opening a music academy in Berlin for young people from the Middle East. I am beginning to think there is something in the DNA of great musicians that we need to find and replicate–or is it the lifetime influence of making music?
